Who knew Charlie Chaplin spoke...
Aight, i thought Charlie Chaplin was some guy who made films without speaking, kinda like a mime. Apparantly I was wrong. I came across this speech and thought it was amazing. It was taken from the film The Great Dictator (1940) and in essence represents my feelings. Charlies character seems like he does'nt want to embrace the power he has been given, but he should relish the opportunity to use his power to influence things for the better. The opposite for what most of the leaders today do, these warmongerers who claim be Christians. I mean cmon, Bush and Blair claim to be Christians, yet they pushed for numerous wars on false pretences. I mean seriously, when did war = peace and vicer versa. Me thinks me smells a rat. Sounds eerily like an Orwell Novel. If any of my MANY readers (lol) have not yet read 1984 by George Orwell AKA (Eric Blair) yet, make sure you pick it up and let me know what you think of it.
Anyway, enough talk,and hhhhhhhhheeeeeeerrrrrreeeee'ssssssss Charlie.........

Forever hold your peace…
Or maybe not. Maybe that perfect scene that Carrie and the gang from Sex and City, and countless other girls around the world who have visualised themselves walking down the aisle in that sequenced dress is just not meant to be. ‘Till death do us part’. When those words are uttered I doubt the exact ramifications are actually fully understood by both parties. Maybe one of the two individuals partaking in this partnership understands the meaning of forever but more often than not, this is not the case. To commit your life to a purpose or person is somewhat unnatural. In what other facet of life are you required to dedicate your existence on this planet to a certain cause? Essentially, the only other agreement of this kind that enters my mind would be a mortgage. Although a mortgage is finite (at least in theory), most mortgages last for an exorbitant amount of time, say, twenty five years or possibly more. In this period of time your ability to earn the required amount of money to meet the mortgage payments would naturally change either for the better or for the worse. This might lead to the defaulting on the mortgage, an end to the agreement and an altogether wasted amount of years spent making payments towards an ultimately fruitless endeavour. This sounds eerily similar to the outcome of an increasing number of marriages.
This example can be applied to the notion of marriage. When couples are in the courting/dating phase, the dynamic of the relationship between the two is at a level where they feel that the relationship is strong enough to enter into a long term commitment. This is a natural feeling as when things are progressing at a pleasurable level most feel the necessity to enter into a commitment that they feel will enhance the level of happiness in their lives. In a relationship sense this natural progression would be marriage. In the coming years both parties in the relationship will experience changes. These changes could serve to strengthen the relationship or the opposite could occur and the changes could lead to a dysfunctional relationship between two incompatible people.
The growing trend is for the marriage agreement to be annulled often leading to a messy separation. With certain individuals or within certain societies these differences do not lead to a separation but to a continuation of the marriage for a vast array of reasons. The reasons vary but religion often influences incompatible people to continue their marriage. Other reasons could be that one party chooses to honour the agreement in the belief that their spouse will recapture the essence of what they fell in love with. This hope held by the person is often misplaced and leads to many disagreements between the two. This can lead to abuse (the female is not always on the receiving end) either in the physical form or in a more subtle form of mental abuse of which the effects are far more serious and lasting.
The rare rest occurrence is when the relationship stands the test of time, not out of loyalty, societal pressure or the fear of being lonely but out of the love that still exists between each other (an occurrence that is becoming rarer by the day). For those individuals who reach their silver and gold anniversary they have nothing but my utmost respect and adoration. It is each individuals dream to find another that they can share such a common bond with that, even after a lengthy period of time, the feeling experienced when in each other’s company is still reminiscent of the feeling experienced at the onset of the relationship. The beauty of this occurrence is matched only by its rarity especially in today’s world.
Society today appears to promote promiscuity and fornication more so than in the past. The sexual undertones that exist in all forms of media, especially advertising, films and music have implanted a subconscious need for sexual relations outside marriage that would otherwise not naturally exist. This can lead to a breakdown of a loving relationship because one has succumbed to their temptation. Although people are ultimately responsible for their actions the constant barrage of sexual connotations can have an influence on the things that we desire. All in all, the sanctity of marriage that was once the holiest alliance possible has been eroded into just another event that we undertake in our life journey, at least for some.
